What is Sattva Yoga?

Sattva Yoga as put forth by my former teacher, Rameen Peyrow is a system of yoga with deep intelligence underlying. The practice has a rotating set sequence which allows practitioners to truly develop understanding and skill as compared to attending random drop in classes.

The word Sattva has many meanings, often considered to relate to balance and purity - or the middle way out of the three Aryurvedic states including Sattvic, Rajastic (excitable) and Tamasic (Lethargic).

The yoga practice is designed to cultivate a dynamic stillness in body and mind, so that the practitioner may live and engage with the world from a space of inspired potential.

The technique involves a merging of the ancient Hatha and Raja yoga traditions, which indicate that through simple and direct practice one can achieve great states of unity - profound awareness.

The practice can be approached at any level, beginner through advanced.

Each month we follow a new sequence based on a rotating perspective of the body. The entire year is organized into four month cycles; which flow through each aspect of the body including:  Front, Back, Side and Centre.

The beauty in repetition is that the practitioner becomes familiar with the sequences and methods. The resulting comfort allows them the chance to grow and strengthen their practice from many angles.

Yoga is a ritual of love that guides me towards deeper levels of understanding of my body, myself and my relation to all things
